The KALDI Wide Pop 300g Home Coffee Roaster Motorize Type Full Package is a solidly built roaster that does the job of creating a uniform roast. It includes a thermometer, sampler, and heat-resistant gloves. However, some may find the process of roasting with this machine challenging, and it requires a separate gas burner and propane tank as the heat source. It also requires ventilation to deal with smoke. Furthermore, the unit gets very hot, and one must be careful not to burn oneself or melt the power cord while dumping roast. The roaster gets messy with beans and chaff spread all over when dumping beans into the cooling fan and sieve.

  • Well-built roaster; uniform roast; 1/2 pound batch size. Includes thermometer, sampler, and heat-resistant gloves. Neutrals: Chaff stays with beans until you dump; requires separate burner and propane tank as the heat source; need to lift and tip the (heavy) main unit to dump beans (and chaff). Requires ventilation to deal with smoke. Requires a separate fan and sieve to cool beans. Would probably be difficult to manage small batches.

Cons

  • A few to several batches may be required to learn the unit and process. The unit gets very hot, so one needs to be careful not to burn oneself, and not melt/burn the power cord to the drum motor while dumping roast. The roaster and dumping of beans get messy, as chaff gets spread all over. Need a surface to set the front of the roaster while dumping beans. The beans smoke in the middle to late portion of the roast process. YOU WILL NEED: POWER SOURCE FOR DRUM MOTOR AND COOLING FAN; PROPANE OR BUTANE BURNER WITH AN ADJUSTABLE FLAME TO ROAST; FAN AND SIEVE FOR COOLING BEANS. Additionally, it would be best to have a scale and timer to help manage your batch and roast.
