The memory foam inside is 4" thick and is surrounded by a cotton batting. The mattress is designed to fit perfectly into a frame, but it can also be used without one, folded against a wall. Feedback: - The product arrived dirty and with a strong odor. - The tufted top is sewn through the stuffing, making it difficult to remove the cover. - The padding is not as described, and does not feel like memory foam. - The futon is not as full or plush as it appears in the images. - The product is not 6 inches thick as advertised. - Assembly was difficult and the screws were already stripped. - The product is super comfy and fits perfectly on a couch.
